기도해 주셔서 워싱턴 지구촌교회에서 실시된 전도폭발 지도자 임상훈련을 잘 다녀왔습니다. 주일 밤 비행기로 출발해서 월요일 오전부터 목요일 오후까지 진행된 강행군이었습니다. 잠을 제대로 자지 못한 가운데 시작되어 육신은 피곤했지만, 영혼은 충만했습니다. 주님의 일을 하는 제게 여러 기쁨이 있지만, 전도폭발 지도자 임상훈련에 가서 목회자와 평신도 지도자를 섬기는 것은 큰 기쁨 중의 하나입니다. 주님이 가장 소원하시는 전도자를 세우는 일에 쓰임 받기 때문입니다. 솔직히 말씀드리면 섬기러 간 제가 오히려 더 많은 은혜를 받습니다. 목사님들이 새롭게 목회 방향을 설정하고, 평신도 지도자들이 더욱 헌신을 결단하기 때문입니다. 돌이켜 보면, 전도하는 일에 관심을 갖고 살았던 제게 하나님이 큰 복을 주셨습니다.
하나님은 전도하는 사람에게 복을 주십니다. 사도행전에 보면 전도 현장마다 놀라운 기적이 일어났습니다. 하나님이 전도 현장에 기적을 베풀어 주시는 이유가 있습니다. 사람들이 기적을 봐야 하나님이 살아계시고, 기독교가 참된 종교라고 말하기 때문입니다. 전도를 목적으로 하나님이 병도 고쳐주시고, 치유와 회복의 은혜를 베풀어 주십니다. 구세군을 창설한 윌리엄 부스는 의사로부터 1년밖에 살지 못한다는 사형선고를 받았습니다. 깊이 고민하던 그는 "어차피 죽을 인생 전도하다 죽자."라고 결심했고, 열심히 전도하는 중에 병 고침을 받았습니다. 후일 그는 구세군을 창설하여 84세까지 복음을 전했습니다. 전도를 위해 하나님이 생명 연장의 기적을 베풀어 주신 것입니다. 하나님은 전도하는 사람에게 건강의 복을 주셔서 더욱 전도에 열심을 내게 하십니다.
하나님은 전도하는 사람에게 물질의 복도 주십니다. 예수님은 마가복음 10장 30절에서, 주님과 복음을 위해 투자한 것에 대해 백배의 복을 약속하셨습니다. 전도자에게 물질의 복을 쏟아 부어주시는 것은 전도를 위해서입니다. 이번 전도폭발 임상 훈련 전반을 책임 맡은 간사님의 간증을 들었습니다. 하나님께서 간사님께 엄청난 복을 쏟아부어주셔서 깜짝 놀랐습니다. 전도하는 사람은 하나님이 직접 챙기심을 깨닫게 되었습니다. 무엇보다 전도하는 사람은 하나님이 높여 주십니다. 아프리카 선교에 일생을 바쳤던 리빙스턴은 형제 모두가 의사입니다. 형인 존 리빙스턴은 의사로서 영국에서 부귀영화를 누리며 살았습니다. 반면 동생 데이비드 리빙스턴은 의료선교사로 아프리카에서 헌신했습니다. 형인 존 리빙스턴을 기억하는 사람은 거의 없습니다. 그러나 동생 데이비드 리빙스턴은 모든 나라, 민족을 초월해서 사랑과 존경을 받고 있습니다.
전도의 목적을 갖고 살 때 하나님께서 그 인생을 책임져 주십니다. 전도할 때 가정, 교회, 나라, 민족 등이 복을 받고 흥왕합니다. 하나님이 우리에게 복을 주시고 은혜를 주시는 것은 전도를 위함입니다. 하나님의 시선과 관심은 전도하는 사람에게 있습니다. 하나님은 전도자의 소원을 들어주시고 환경의 문을 열어 주십니다. 하나님의 일로 가슴앓이를 하며 근심하는 사람은 이미 하나님의 응답 속에 거한 사람입니다. 무엇보다 전도자에게 주시는 가장 큰 복은 하나님이 함께 하시는 임마누엘의 복입니다. 전도하고 제자 삼는 사람에게 예수님은 세상 끝날까지 함께 하시겠다고 약속하셨습니다. 새생명축제가 한 달 앞으로 다가왔습니다. 오늘은 2차 태신자 작정 주일입니다. 모두 새생명축제에 참여하셔서 하나님의 구원 역사를 보기를 축복합니다.
Thanks to your prayers, I was able to attend in good health the training for Evangelism Explosion Leadership held at Washington Global Church. We left on a plane Sunday evening and began our schedule that lasted from Monday morning to Thursday afternoon. My body was fatigued without proper sleep but my spirit was very much vigilant. I have many joys as God’s servant but serving the pastors and laypersons at the Evangelism Explosion training is one of the greatest of them all. Because training men to be witnesses for Jesus is what God wants most. To be honest, I am the one who is more blessed by the training. I get to witness pastors finding their directions and laypeople commit with greater zeal. Looking back, I realize God has blessed me greatly for having a heat for evangelism.
God blesses the evangelist. The book of Acts is full of miracles in places where evangelism took place. And there is a good reason for such things—people come to faith after witnessing miracles, realizing God is alive and Christianity is the true religion. When evangelism becomes the priority, God heals diseases and allows healing and restoration. William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army had once been told by his doctor he had no more than a year to live. While struggling with despair, Booth resolved, “If I am to die, why not die evangelizing?” And while he committed to it seriously, his illness was cured. Years later, he founded the Salvation Army and lived until his 84th year evangelizing. God miraculously extended Booth’s life for his witness. God even grants health to those who are zealous for evangelism.
God also grants material blessings to the evangelist. Jesus promised material blessings, a hundredfold return to those who invest in his gospel in Mark 10:30! The reason he blesses materially to the evangelist is for the purpose of evangelism. I got to hear the testimony of the staff who was in charge of overseeing the entire training. He testified of God’s overwhelming blessing on him that shocked the listeners. I realized God truly takes care of those who evangelize. More importantly, God exalts the evangelist. David Livingstone who gave his life to evangelizing the nations in Africa was a doctor. So was John Livingstone, the older of the two, but he chose the life of privilege and affluence in England. But David, the younger, took his career to being a medical missionary in Africa. Very few today remember John today, while David’s name is memorialized with great reverence and love in all the world, all cultures.
When we live with the goal of evangelism, God takes care of that life. When we evangelize, God blesses the family, the church, the nation, the people. The sole reason God blesses us is for the purpose of evangelism. God’s eyes are fixed with interest on the evangelist. God hears his prayers and opens many doors to him. He who weeps and has a burden in his heart for the work of God is already living in God’s answers. More importantly, the greatest blessing he experiences is the presence of Emmanuel. Jesus promised that he would be with them until the end of the age, he who evangelizes and disciples. The New Life Festival is a month away now and today marks the second day of decision (whom to bring to church). May all of us participate in the Festival and experience God’s work of salvation.
